Coffee expert tip: Iced recipes work perfectly with oat milk, if that’s to your taste. Oat milk creates a thick foam when frothed on the cold setting of yourNespressomilk device, that creates a whipped texture.

What is a Caramel Iced Macchiato

Themacchiatohas its origins in Italian coffee culture, but this iced version takes a few pointers from American-style coffee. The original macchiato drink gets its name from the Italian word for stained, referring to the ‘stain’ of milk that colours the otherwise undisturbed espresso shot. An iced caramel macchiato gives a bit more expression to this classic, combining the espresso and milk with syrup and caramel drizzle, all poured over ice. In this recipe we use caramel, but the iced macchiato can also be customised to suit any preferred taste! Use whatever flavour syrup you like best, such as hazelnut or butterscotch to create this espresso-forwardiced coffeedrink.

Caramel Iced Macchiato vs Iced Caramel Latte

An iced caramel macchiato and iced caramel latte share some elements, but the ratio of coffee to milk and the assembling of ingredients deliver different results. Like aniced latte, an iced caramel latte is made by pouring a single or double shot of espresso over ice and combining with a larger ratio of cold frothed milk, before adding in caramel syrup. These ingredients are then stirred to combine. An iced macchiato on the other hand follows its espresso shots with syrup and then milk to create a layered finish, before topping with a syrup drizzle for added caramel. The resulting taste is a more espresso-forward, richer iced drink.

What is in a Caramel Iced Macchiato?

Despite the name, our iced caramel macchiato also uses vanilla syrup as its sweet flavour source! By using vanilla, it enhances the caramel and adds depth of flavour. An iced macchiato recipe with caramel includes: vanilla syrup, cold milk, espresso shot (single or double), caramel sauce and ice.

To get the deliciously rich layered effect, the espresso is followed by vanilla syrup and then cold milk and then poured over ice before being served.
