Caring for the Climate
We’re using the power of coffee to regenerate land, restore healthy ecosystems, and build resilience against the impact of climate change. We’re committed to achieving Net-Zero GHG emissions by 2050.
How Do We Plan to Achieve Our Ambitions?
We’re working through the entire lifecycle of each cup of coffee in order to reduce its carbon footprint and help us reach our goals. To achieve net-zero, we’re committed to reforestation, recycling, and utilizing recycled materials, as well as moving towards fully renewable energy sources and working with our supply chain partners to reduce carbon emissions.

Eco design coffee system
Our system is designed to use a precise consumption of water, coffee, and energy for each cup of coffee.

Recycling program
We offer a free, dedicated recycling program and encourage our consumers to recycle their used capsules so that the aluminum can be given a second life and the coffee grounds can be repurposed.

Responsible transportation
Our green beans travel from their countries of origin by boat and rail to our production centres in Switzerland.

Responsible production
Our production centres are powered by 100% certified renewable electricity.
10 million
Trees planted globally by Nespresso and its partners in the AAA program landscape.
114,000
Trees have been planted in Canada thanks to our partnership with Tree Canada. This donation will support its National Greening Program which seeks to regreen areas in need of reforestation or afforestation, thereby contributing to cleaner air and waterways.

Decarbonisation:
Towards Net-Zero GHG Emissions by 2050
We are committed to achieving net-zero GHG emissions by 2050. It is time to be bolder, more ambitious and to involve consumers in this journey through their coffee experiences. This is why we are scaling and accelerating our efforts across the full scope of GHG emissions from farm to end-of-life, preventing GHG emissions at the source of our activities, and removing carbon from the atmosphere to ultimately curb the evolution of our global footprint.
Six Levers of Action Will Be Triggered Across Our Value Chain

Regenerative Coffee Production
Accelerate the work that we do with the farmers we source our coffee from, encouraging and enabling the adoption of regenerative farming practices such as agroforestry, organic fertilisation, and soil cover.

Ecodesign
Focus on circularity and innovation, increasing the use of recycled and recyclable materials in the design of our capsules, accessories, and machines, and promoting refurbished machines.

Renewable energy
Continue to increase energy efficiency and move towards 100% renewable electricity across all Nespresso sites and boutiques.

Recycling
Work with our customers and consumers to continue to drive up recycling rates for Nespresso capsules, investing in initiatives that make recycling easier and simpler, and that make used coffee grounds a source of energy.

Logistics optimisation
Continue to work closely with our supply chain partners to introduce solutions and innovations that reduce carbon emissions throughout our operations, transport and delivery of our materials, goods, and products.

Tree Planting and Reforestation
Scale our track record of 10 million trees planted globally by Nespresso and its partners in the AAA program landscape. These trees were planted in and around coffee farms to enhance carbon sinks in the regions where we source coffee.
How Do I Recycle My Capsules?
Our capsules are made from aluminum that can be recycle again and again 1. Recycling your used capsules allows the aluminium to receive a second life and the coffee grounds to be repurposed. See which simple recycling solution is available in your area.
