The reservoir gets filled throughout the day and night (since the system is gravity fed, there is no ‘off-switch’). The reservoir holds several hundred thousand liters of water and it allows us to stabilize the pressure for the remainder of the system. From the reservoir several pipes supply all of the water points.

Together with Asili, Nespresso is supporting the development of 2 Asili zones, community areas provided with water infrastructure and health clinics ready to serve over 80,000 Congolese people.

Asili is based on the results of a thorough human-centered design process that asked mothers in South Kivu to identify their greatest needs and preferences for meeting them. At the forefront was close access to clean water. Asili’s monitored water kiosks prevent deadly illnesses like cholera and allow women and girls to spend days in school or at work instead of gathering water from contaminated sources. Last year, Asili provided 41M liters of water through its six zones. Nespresso’s partnership will add two zones by 2022, and by 2023, Asili is on track to serve 500,000 people daily
