The point of an Accessibility Statement

As a disabled customer interested in Nespresso, I need to know if their online platform and services are accessible for browsing and purchasing. Before investing my time and effort, I need assurance that I won't encounter significant barriers. I also require information on any alternative support options available if I am unable to use the standard digital channels.

Our Current Accessibility Efforts

We are actively working to improve the accessibility of Nespresso and aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. We recognise that we currently have several areas that do not yet meet these guidelines, and we are dedicated to addressing these issues.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

Nespresso site is partially conformant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.

Known Accessibility Issues

We are aware of the following accessibility issues on our website:

Keyboard Navigation
Some interactive elements may not be fully navigable using only a keyboard. This can make it difficult for users who do not use a mouse to access certain features including purchasing from Nespresso. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.1.1 (Keyboard).
Colour Contrast
Some text and background colour combinations may not provide sufficient contrast, making it difficult for users with low vision or colour blindness to read the content. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.3 (Contrast (Minimum)).
Image Alternatives
Some images may be missing or have non-descriptive alternative text, which means users who cannot see the images may not understand their purpose. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content).
Form Accessibility
Certain form elements may not be fully accessible to screen readers or may lack proper labels, making them difficult to understand and complete.
Video Accessibility
Some videos may lack captions or transcripts, making their content inaccessible to users who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Dynamic Content
Some dynamically updated content may not be fully accessible to assistive technologies.
PDFs
Many PDF documents are not accessible.
Headings
Some headings and levels are not consistent or logically structured. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships) and some headings don’t accurately describe the content. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.6 (Headings and Labels).
Page Titles
Some pages have unhelpful titles; this may make it difficult for users to orient themselves and find the right content. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.2 (Page Titled).
Screen Reader Compatibility
While we strive for good screen reader compatibility, some content and interactive elements is not be fully announced or interpreted correctly by screen readers. This can impact users who rely on these assistive technologies to understand and navigate our site.

Timeline for Addressing Issues

We are committed to addressing these accessibility issues and are working on a prioritised action plan. Our current estimated timelines for addressing key areas are as follows:

Phase 1 (within the next 3 months – July 2025)
Focus on improving automated errors including colour contrast, alt text and aria-misuse.
Phase 2 (within the next 6 months – December 2025)
Concentrate on enhancing keyboard compatibility across the website. We will also begin the process of working with 3rd party vendors and suppliers.
Phase 3 (within the next 24 months – June 2027)
Address further accessibility issues identified through ongoing testing. We will also develop a more comprehensive accessibility roadmap for continuous improvement.
Phase 4 (June 2027 onwards)
Aim to meet WCAG 2.1 AA start process to meet WCAG 2.2 AA.
Please note: these are estimated timelines and may be subject to change as we progress with our work. We will update this statement accordingly with any significant changes.

Browser compatibility and assistive technology

We designed our site considering compatibility of assistive technologies with major modern web browsers. For the best experience, and security, please keep your browser version up to date and take security measures such as installing anti-virus software.

This site supports the latest two major versions of Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Safari, Android WebView, and Samsung Internet browsers. Nespresso is not compatible with browsers older than 3 major versions, mobile operating systems older than 5 years.

Our specific statement regarding supported screen readers including: JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack and Narrator will be provided at a later time. It's important to note that the way a screen reader interacts with a web page can vary significantly depending on the browser being used. Testing with different combinations of screen readers and browsers is in progress.
