Google Assistant: how does it work?

You can talk to the Nespresso Assistant from different devices. Use a Google speaker, an iPhone or iPad and an Android phone. The operation on these devices is as follows:

If you have a smart Google speaker...

Do you have a Google Hub, Google Nest, Google Mini or a Sonos speaker that supports the Google Assistant? Then make sure your speaker is set to Dutch. To get started, say "Hey Google, Praat met Nespresso". Our Assistant will do the rest.

If you have an iPhone or iPad…

Make sure you have iOS 10.0 or higher. Install the Google Assistant through the App Store on your phone. Launch the app and say or type "Praat met Nespresso".

If you have an Android phone…

Make sure you have Android 5.0 or higher. Press and hold the home button on your phone and say or type "Praat met Nespresso". If this doesn't work you can install the Google Assistant as an app on your phone via the Play Store.

  • “Praat met Nespresso”, how does it work?

    The Nespresso Assistant is available through Google Assistant. You can call it up on your Google speaker or smartphone. You activate the Nespresso Assistant by saying "Hey Google, praat met Nespresso". The Assistant will tell you what it can help you with, namely ordering coffee, reordering coffee, giving Track & Trace information about your order, coffee inspiration or help you find a Nespresso Boutique or recycling point near you.

    To these questions, the Nespresso Assistant responds after "Hey Google, praat met Nespresso":

  • How do I link my Nespresso account to Google Assistant?

    To be able to order coffee, reorder coffee or track your package via Track & Trace, your Nespresso account will have to be linked to Google Assistant. You can do this at any time by saying "Hey Google, vraag Nespresso om mijn account te koppelen”.

    With your smartphone: you will be automatically redirected to a page to link your account. Enter your Nespresso login details here.

    With speaker: you will receive a link in the Google Home app. Check the notifications and click on "pairing". Then you can enter your Nespresso login details.

    Once your account is linked and you are connected with the Nespresso Assistant, your account will automatically remain linked to Google Assistant for 6 months. If you talk to the Nespresso Assistant within those 6 months, then a new 6 months will start. Ideal, this way you don't have to link every time!

    Please note! In your Nespresso account, the following information should be added under“my checkout preferences” in account settings:
    - Delivery address
    - A payment method

  • How do I order coffee?

    When ordering coffee, you can choose from 2 options, placing a new order or reordering your previous coffee order. When ordering coffee, you can order a minimum of 50 capsules and a maximum of 500 capsules at one time.

    You can only order coffee capsules through voice, both Vertuo and Original. Limited editions are excluded when ordering through voice, it only concerns permanent coffees. In addition, you cannot order machines and accessories via voice.

    Would you like to place a new order? This works as follows:

    1. Say: "Hey Google, vraag Nespresso om koffie te bestellen"
    2. Then say how many capsules you want of which coffee.
    3. Order coffee for coffee. For example, you say "50 Arpeggio," then wait a moment for the Assistant to confirm that these capsules have been added to the shopping cart. Then you can say the next coffee you would like to order and so on.
    4. When all capsules you would like to order are in your basket, say "checkout".

    Reordering works as follows:

    1. Say : “Hey Google, vraag Nespresso om mijn laatste bestelling te herhalen”.
    2. This allows you to reorder one of your last two orders. After selecting the order you want, you can still make adjustments.
    3. When reordering, you can only choose coffee, not machines and accessories.

  • How does the payment work?

    The Nespresso Assistant works best when a credit card is added to the account. This is easily done in your account. Only with a linked credit card you can then go through the whole process without another device. Tip, link your credit card right now, so you won’t forget.

    If you do not have a credit card, the payment will be completed via iDEAL. In that case, you will need your phone to complete the payment. The Nespresso Assistant will ask you to install the Nespresso App. You need to do this if you have not done so before.

  • On which devices can I talk to the Nespresso Assistant?

    The Google Hub, Google Nest and Google Mini all support Google Assistant. Furthermore, there are speakers by Sonos or Harman Kardon, for example, on which the Google Assistant also works. Before you buy a smart speaker, check the specifications or the manual.

    The Google Assistant can also be used on your iPhone. You need at least iOS 10.0, so make sure your software is up-to-date. Via the App Store you can install the Google Assistant app for free. Then launch the app and say or type "Praat met Nespresso" to get started.

    If you have an Android device, make sure you have at least Android 5.0. Press and hold the home button on your phone and say or type "Praat met Nespresso". Not working? Then you can install the Google Assistant app on your phone via the Play Store.

  • What happens to my data?

    By talking to the Nespresso Assistant you share data with Google and with Nespresso. You can read how this works here.

  • Can I cancel my order?

    To guarantee delivery within one day, orders are packed and shipped as soon as possible. If you wish to change your order, please call us as soon as possible on our free phone number 0800 022 23 20. Please note that once you have confirmed the order, Nespresso cannot guarantee changes or a cancellation.

    According to the Nespresso Terms and Conditions, you can refuse the delivery of any package. The package will then be returned to us and you will receive credit for the returned products.

  • Is the Nespresso Assistant still being developed?

    Of course. Based on feedback we continue to optimize the Assistant to make your Nespresso experience even more tasteful and easy.

  • It's not working, what should I do?

    Check if your software is up to date. For an Android phone you need at least Android 5.0 and for an iPhone at least iOS 10.0. Next, check that your Google Assistant app is up to date by going to the App Store (for Apple) or the Play Store (for Android). Finally, check whether the language of your smartphone or smart speaker is set to Dutch.

    Furthermore, it is important that you say the commands just right. Say "Hey Google" to activate the Google Assistant. Then say "Praat met Nespresso" to activate the Nespresso Assistant. Make sure you speak clearly and say exactly these things.

    Then you can ask the following questions:

  • Can I order other Nespresso products besides coffee/capsules with the Nespresso Assistant?

    At this moment you can only order coffee. Ordering machines and accessories are not possible. The Nespresso Assistant is continuously being developed, so this might change in a few months.
