Congratulations on the purchase of your Nespresso Gran Lattissima Machine! You are minutes away from being able to enjoy cafe quality coffee in your own home, but before we do that, there’s a few important things we need to cover off first.

Chapter 1: Unboxing & Assembly

To start off, you will notice a sticker on your machine’s drip tray

which will show a serial number. We’ll come back to this a bit later but in the meantime, keep it safe stuck on your manual. In your box you will find your new Gran Lattissima machine, Water tank, milk frother, and cup holder, as well as a selection of brochures which give you information on how to use the machine, your warranty and more detailed information on the coffee range. You also have a box of Nespresso capsules which includes a variety of intensities and flavour profiles.These coffees really set you up to explore our range and discover your favourites! To get things started, you simply need to connect your machine to power - and then we’re ready to set the machine up for first use.

Chapter 2: First Use- Priming Your Machine

The most important part of setting up your machine for the first time is priming. This ensures there are no air pockets so you can get the smoothest coffee extraction. To do this, we need to run water through the machine - so let’s get started. Grab a bowl and place it under the spout and insert your milk device. Fill the water tank with water, replace the lid, and put it back on your machine. Turn your machine on - you will notice the coffee buttons flashing which is a sign the machine is heating up. Once the lights are steady, push the LUNGO button to begin priming the machine and then repeat this process another three times. Empty and replace the bowl beneath the spout. Ensure the steam pipe is facing the bowl and turn the dial on the milk device towards the clean icon. This will rinse the steam pipe. Turn the dial back to the milk icon, the lights will become steady, and your Gran Lattissima is now ready to use.

Chapter 3: Coffee & Cup Selection

Now onto our coffee selection! You are as unique as your coffee preference and Nespresso has an incredible selection of quality coffees to suit every taste. But there are, of course, some handy tips to help you find your

favourites. When selecting your coffee, the things you need to consider are Espresso or Lungo capsules, and the intensity rating. In this tasting box, you will find a range of coffees with various intensities. You’ll see here an intensity out of 13. Now, this is the intensity of the roast and not the amount of caffeine. The more intense the roast, the bolder and richer your coffee will taste. Included are both espresso and lungo sizes which can be determined by this icon here. An espresso size is a 40ml extraction which is perfect for coffees with milk, whereas the lungo is a 110ml extraction, ideal for long black drinkers. You might also notice these Nespresso capsules are aluminium, and this is for good reason. Not only is aluminium infinitely recyclable but it protects the quality of your coffee.

Chapter 4: Mastering Your First Coffee at Home

Now your machine is clean and ready to go, let’s make our first coffee, an Aussie favourite, the flat white. I’ve selected the Ristretto capsule. This is a strong coffee with an intense roast that'll work so well with milk. This blend is one of my favourites, so let’s start with this one together, but for your next coffee, you’re in control!

Refill your tank with water and put it back into position, then make sure your cup holder is in place. Select the right coffee cup for your coffee - in this case, we’re using a 180ml glass from the View collection to give us enough room for the 40ml espresso and the milk.

Remove the milk frother from the machine and remove the lid by holding down this button. FIll it up with milk to the maximum line. Put it back into position. Select the coffee you would like to make using the pre-programmed buttons. Today we’re going to use the flat white button. Put your cup into position, then rotate the spout to align with the centre of your cup. Lift the lever, insert your capsule, then close the lever. Press the Flat White button. Now, your Gran Lattissima will begin in a few seconds, starting with the coffee extraction automatically followed by the milk. Once you finish making your coffee, you’ll notice the clean alert light appears orange. This is a reminder to clean the milk device after use if you aren’t making another coffee immediately. You do this by turning the dial to the clean icon.

It’s also important to eject the used capsule so that it doesn’t sit in your machine. To do this, simply open and close the machine lever. If you have finished making coffee, you can simply store the milk frother in the fridge or disassemble it and wash it with warm soapy water or in your dishwasher. And remember, all Nespresso capsules are recyclable through our 19,000 recycling points around Australia.
