10 ways to boost your iced coffee recipes

Up your coffee game this summer

Iced coffee is something of a summer staple in Australia, and for good reason. With the beloved beach season, comes three months of hot days and balmy nights. The heat calls for a cool, refreshing, totally satisfying alternative to our regular hot coffee. While we appreciate the classic coolness of the traditional iced coffee, consuming iced coffee in the same way every day throughout summer can become a little boring. Lucky for you, we’ve come up with 10 creative ways that you can upgrade your summer brew and take your home iced coffee recipes to the next level.

1. Add protein powder

Kill two birds with one stone by protein-fuelling your iced coffee in the morning. Awaken the senses with your favourite cup while reaping the appetite filling, muscle building, cell repairing benefits of a quality protein powder. It’s a great way to kick start your metabolism and keep your body well-fuelled throughout the day.

Tip: Let your espresso cool down properly and then mix the powder with your milk a bit at a time to avoid gluggy or curdled coffee.

2. Spice it up

Keep things interesting by adding some kick to your cuppa. A sprinkle of cinnamon, some powdered coriander seeds, or a slice or two of ginger delivers a subtle punch that goes surprisingly well with your iced coffee.

3. Get your syrup on

Syrups are a simple, popular and indulgent way to experiment with different flavours in your cold coffee. Vanilla, caramel and maple syrup are just a few options that can be included to create a sweeter cold brew and mix up your coffee tasting experience.

Tip: Enjoy a range of syrupy flavours and avoid the added sugar with Nespresso’s Vanilla Éclair, Caramel Crème Brulee or Cocoa Truffle flavoured coffees.

4. Freeze it

Eliminate the issue of a watered-down coffee drinking experience by freezing espresso into ice cubes. Drop them into your iced coffee when you need them and they’ll keep your drink icy cool and pack it full of coffee flavour.

5. Spike it

Enjoy a slightly naughtier version of your favourite iced coffee by adding a splash of your favourite liqueur. Cream based options such as Baileys, Martini, or your favourite whiskey all work particularly well but the choices really are limitless. See our guide to coffee cocktails for more inspiration.

6. Add a float

This old favourite never gets old. Top off your iced coffee with a generous dollop of your favourite ice cream as a sweet treat that cools you to the max. Vanilla is a common go-to for this, but the options for experimentation are endless. Chocolate, mint, orange, cookie dough…. Need we go on?

7. Give it a twist

Who would have imagined that citrus and coffee are a match made in heaven. Pour your espresso over a few slices of lime and ice to gently bump up the natural acidity of your coffee and add a splash of milk for a touch of sweetness. The unlikely pairing between the lime and coffee might sound odd but it actually offers a refreshing twist to an old classic.

8. Go non-dairy

Looking for a non-dairy option for your favourite iced latte? If you’re vegan, lactose intolerant or simply don’t like full cream milk, there’s no reason to miss out this summer. With a range of dairy-free milks available on the shelf in most grocery stores, you can pick and mix from almond, coconut, soy, rice milk and more.

9. Dust off your blender

Drop your ice, coffee, syrups, ice creams, cream, milk and whatever else takes your fancy into your home blender for a thicker, creamier hybrid of iced coffee and coffee smoothie. See 7 coffee smoothies you need to try this summer

10. Experiment with different Nespresso capsules

Don’t forget about the world of Nespresso flavours that sits at your fingertips. Each of our 28 Original and 26 Vertuo capsules offers a unique experience and a new way to enjoy your cold coffee.
