Nespresso’s golf ambassador José María Olazábal is considered one of the finest golfers in the history of the sport.

The two-time Masters champion and World Golf Hall of Famer perfectly represents the values and spirit of the game.

José María burst onto the golf scene aged 18 when he won the 1984 British Amateur Championship. Beating Colin Montgomerie in the final championship match, he went on to take part in his first rookie professional season finishing second on the European Tour Order of Merit at just aged 20.

José Maria’s Masters wins in 1994 and 1999 make him the only winner of the Amateur Championship since World War II to have gone on to win a professional Major. Following his Major win in 1994 and a successful 94/95 season José María soared to No.4 in the world rankings.

And when it comes to The Ryder Cup his passionate play is legendary and ingrained into the history of the tournament. He has played seven Ryder Cups: the first in 1987 and the last in 2006. His tournament record includes 18 won matches and an overall Ryder Cup record of 18-8-5.

Perhaps one of the most iconic memories of The Ryder Cup is the partnership between José María and Seve Ballesteros. In 15 matches, the duo won 11 of them to claim the title of most successful partnership in the history of the Event .

And in 2011, José María was selected to captain Team Europe at Medinah for The 2012 Ryder Cup . Heading into the final day, Team Europe trailed USA by 10 points to 6 and all hope seemed lost.

With José María’s guidance, vision and team spirit, Europe battled back to deliver one of the greatest ever sporting comebacks ultimately winning 14 ½ - 13 ½.

Following the win José María dedicated "The Miracle at Medinah" to his late great friend, Seve Ballesteros.
