Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We understand and respect the responsibilities we as Nespresso have in creating a sustainable coffee economy. And recycling our aluminium capsules plays a major role in this. This means that both the coffee and the capsule are given a second life.
If your company is located in a municipality that accepts source-separated waste (check your postal code here), this means that you may be able to easily recycle used coffee capsules by placing them in the PMD waste. This makes sorting even easier, and the capsules can be processed into new raw materials. Please note that this is only valid if you are responsible for processing your own business waste.
If you use industrial waste collection services, nothing changes for you at this time, and you should follow the usual route described below:

Do you recycle more than 2,500 capsules per month? Then you can use a recycling container to collect used capsules. The container is emptied free of charge maximum twice per month.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE USED CAPSULES?
Aluminium protects the coffee against influences from the outside, this keeps our coffee fresh for a long time.
FROM OLD TO NEW We separate our coffee waste from the aluminium capsules. The coffee waste is processed locally into compost and biogas. The aluminium can contribute to the development of new products, from pens to bicycles.
WE ARE ALREADY RECYCLING 1 IN 4 CAPSULES Thanks to the efforts of our customers 28% of the capsules are already been recycled.
HOW MUCH CAN WE RECYCLE IN THE NETHERLANDS? In The Netherlands we can process 100% of the capsules with our own recycling system.
RECYCLED ALUMINIUM is an important part of the metal supply. The global demand for aluminium scrap has doubled since 2018. In 2018 53% of aluminium demand was met with recycled aluminium.
