OF THE NEXT GENERATIONS FUTURE!

STILL IN DOUBT?

Are Nespresso capsules recyclable?

Nespresso capsules are made of aluminum – the best material to protect the freshness and quality of our coffees for a long time. Plus, the added benefit of being infinitely recyclable. We are committed to making recycling Nespresso capsules as simple and convenient as possible for our customers.

How can Nespresso customers recycle their used capsules?

Nespresso has its own scheme dedicated to recycling, offering a variety of options to make recycling used capsules a simple and convenient process for customers.

What is made with the recycled aluminum and coffee grounds?

Our recycled capsules return to the aluminum value chain, where they are transformed into countless objects, such as automotive parts, bicycles, computers, or soda cans. We also reuse coffee grounds to produce nutrient-rich organic compounds.

Why does Nespresso use aluminum in its capsules?

We use aluminum because it is the best material to protect the freshness, flavor and quality of Nespresso coffees. Aluminum is a metal present in nature and is infinitely recyclable. Thanks to aluminum, it is not necessary to use additional packaging to protect freshness, and flavor. Recycled aluminum is extremely versatile. It is estimated that 75% of all aluminum ever produced is still in use today.

How are Nespresso capsules recycled?

Through reverse logistics, the capsules are sent to the Nespresso Recycling Center, in the city of Osasco – SP. There, the coffee grounds are mechanically separated from the aluminum, a process which does not use water. The aluminum is recycled, and the coffee grounds are destined for farmers who use it to grow organic food.

Have you ever considered using plastic capsules as an alternative?

Plastic capsules often need additional packaging to preserve freshness. Typically, this packaging is made of aluminum. We believe aluminum is the most sustainable material for our capsules as it reduces the need for additional packaging and thus protects the freshness and quality of our coffees, as well as being infinitely recyclable.
