Paolo Basso
A palate of delights
Paolo is an Italian-Swiss with an exceptional palate. Born in Italy, he lives in Switzerland. From this double cultural influence, he inherited the two sides of taste: rigor and emotion. A perfect complementarity to reach the top of wine tasting kingdom. Aside from his elegant silhouette, Paolo has another distinguishing feature: he belongs to the very small club of only five to be awarded both titles of Best sommelier in Europe (2010) and in the world (2013-2016). After several experiences in many Michelin starred restaurants, Paolo is now an oenology consultant at his own office in Lugano. We also count him as one of our Coffee Sommeliers here at Nespresso. He ventured to the other side of the mirror, creating his own nectar, Il Rosso di Chiara
a tribute to his beloved daughter and her flamboyant red hair. In celebration of her, he designed a Bordelais style blend: merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc; the grapes of which grow on the sunny hills of the Mendrisiotto region, in South Switzerland just on the way to Italy…
