When brewing that perfect cup of real Espresso, water passes through finely grounded coffee under high pressure and results in a cup of approximately 40 ml. A more concentrated version of an espresso comes in the size of a cup by the name of Ristretto (25 ml), which is very common in Italy, the homeland of this coffee. Espresso is characterized by its fullness, rich aroma, long lasting taste and the deep, natural crema caused by the high pressure in the coffee machine. By adding some milk to your Espresso, you can take your coffee experience to a whole new level. The espresso actually makes up the base in popular drinks such as the Latte Macchiato or Cappuccino.
Espresso technology was born in Italy in 1905, when Luigi Bezzera invented the art of high pressure brewing to speed up the process and give customers the opportunity to brew their own perfect cup of coffee at home. The name “Espresso” comes from the Italian language and means “quick”, a very appropriate name.
