The Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality™ Program.

More than 10 years of commitment to sustainable quality. Each cup of Nespresso is about more than pure enjoyment: it is about sustainable sourcing, capsule recycling and carbon footprint reduction.

Nespresso launched its capsule recycling initiative back in 1991. Ten years ago, the Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality™ Program was created and now delivers profound results that are monitored on an ongoing basis. The program is maintained together with the Rainforest Alliance.

Nespresso guarantees to pay all AAA coffee growers premiums of 30% to 40% above the standard market price and 10% to 15% above comparable highest quality coffee.

In order to improve the coffee growers’ quality of life, they receive support, advice and training from more than 250 agronomists. Improving their business skills with tools like the TASQ* enables the coffee growers to reach their goals concerning quality, productivity and sustainability.

*Tool for Assessment of Sustainable Quality

Sustainable coffee sourcing includes economic, social and ecologic criteria. By the end of 2014, more than 84% of the coffee we use will come from the Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality™ Program that includes aspects of sustainability and fair trade. The program is supervised by independent partners such as the Rainforest Alliance.

Along the entire value chain, Nespresso has set up methods to reduce environmental impact, including reducing water usage, making use of solar energy, and commitments to respect biodiversity.
