Our commitment to recycling
As pioneers in portioned coffee, we're also leading the way in recycling.
An idea that
has come a long way
Infinitely recyclable
For Nespresso, aluminium was the natural choice for the shell of its coffee capsules because it's the only material that can preserve the full aroma of coffee by protecting it from light, oxygen and humidity, and also because it can be recycled endlessly without losing any of its properties.
Did you know...?
By recycling your capsules instead of throwing them away, you reduce the carbon footprint of their packaging by 20%.
Recycling pioneers
As early as 1991, Nespresso set up a system for collecting and recycling its aluminium capsules throughout Switzerland. Today, there are three different ways to return your used capsules for recycling: at one of our 2,700 public collection points, at all Nespresso boutiques and partner stores, or from the comfort of your own home, thanks to the free "Recycling at Home” collection service.
100% of Nespresso customers have a home collection point, thanks to "Recycling at Home"

Moving towards sustainable and traceable aluminium
Together with other players in the aluminium industry and under the aegis of the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature), Nespresso is behind an initiative to define the first standard for the sustainability and traceability of aluminium. The aim is to produce 100% of Nespresso coffee capsules from sustainable aluminium by 2020, making Nespresso the first-ever company to use only sustainable aluminium.
