Nespresso Australia Goals
Nespresso Australia is committed to ensuring we are
part of a sustainable coffee economy. The good
news is that our coffee capsules are made from
aluminium, which is infinitely recyclable. However,
we face a challenge in that our products cannot be
recycled through Australia’s domestic waste
systems. That is why since 2010, we have made
recycling available in our Boutiques, and have
worked with a recycling plant in Southern NSW to
put in place a dedicated system to recycle our used
Our commitment is to continually improve our
recycling program to help ensure that as many used
Nespresso capsules are recycled as possible.
We are focusing on:
- Continuing to remove barriers to recycling by developing more options and easier accessibility for our Club Members.
- Collaborating with credible partners through a Recycling Working Group, to help inform our initiatives. Founding members include Paul Klymenko, CEO of Planet Ark, and Nick Rowley, former advisor to British Prime Minister Tony Blair on climate change and sustainability, and Adjunct Professor at the University of Sydney.
- Education and awareness, keeping our Club Members informed about the recyclability of our capsules and the recycling options we provide to them.
- Encouraging behaviour change, so that recycling our aluminium capsules becomes a habit.
