NESPRESSO and the St. Moritz Polo World Cup on Snow
NESPRESSO is proud to be an official sponsor of the world's most prestigious winter polo event, the St. Moritz Polo World Cup on Snow. For the last four days of January, top polo players from around the world will congregate in Switzerland and battle on the frozen surface of Lake St. Moritz for the Cartier Trophy. In these conditions on an icy lake 1,800 metres above sea level both horse and rider must be at their best, displaying the utmost precision, elegance and endurance.
St. Moritz has the distinction of being one of the first places in continental Europe where organized polo was played, with tournaments dating back to 1899. The Polo World Cup that has taken place here every winter since 1985 is not merely an internationally renowned sporting event, it’s also the annual highlight of the St. Moritz social season.
On each day of this 4-day tournament, two matches will take place between high-goal teams boasting players from United Arab Emirates, Argentina, Chile, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland and elsewhere. The Cartier Trophy will be awarded after the grande finale match on Sunday, 31st January 2010.
NESPRESSO has been a sponsor of the St Moritz Polo World Cup on Snow since 2005 and shares many of the tournament’s core values: passion, commitment, perfection, elegance and quality, but also sustainability. Energy at this year’s event will increasingly be drawn from renewable sources. The idea is to produce a carbon-neutral St. Moritz Polo World Cup on Snow. The strategy entails decreasing overall electricity consumption and drawing as much energy as possible from solar sources. A150-square-metre solar collector will be installed on the lake and is slated to produce power for approximately 10 days.
As the Official Coffee of the tournament, NESPRESSO Grand Cru coffees will be served in the NESPRESSO Lounge on the piazza terrace as well as in the VIP areas and press centre.
