The Critics’ Week
Created in 1962 by the French Syndicate of Film Critics, the Critics’ Week awards the 1st and 2nd feature films by young directors. This year the jury awarded the Critics’ Week Nespresso Grand Prize to the director and writer Jeff Nichols, for his film Take Shelter. An experimental film telling the story of a man grappling with terrifying and supernatural hallucinations, which will change his life and that of his family. Jeff Nichols, a young 32 year old director, was here directing his 2nd feature film, after Shotgun Stories, released in 2008. Receiving the Critics’ Week Nespresso Grand Prize is for him a token of gratitude and trust, the proof that his work as a director is appreciated and recognised by the world of cinema and by the public.
Take Shelter by Jeff Nichols
Coming from Little Rock, a small town in Arkansas, Jeff Nichols loves to create rural American communities. Take Shelter plunges us from the very beginning into a strange and disturbing atmosphere, at the heart of the Arkansas plains. In this mix of genres, between fantasy film and psychological drama, Jeff Nichols makes us afraid, but above all speaks to us about love and commitment, with the background of the American economic crisis.
