Fine Dining Doesn’t Get Better than This
“What’s your favourite restaurant?” That’s anything but a casual question for the Nespresso World's 50 Best Restaurants Academy. Every year the Academy is called upon to scour the globe in search of the finest eating establishments. The results of this search are then delivered in the form of the S.Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants list, considered the most authoritative guide of its kind. The 2008 list was revealed April 21 in London’s Freemasons' Hall (Covent Garden). The votes – 3,410 of them, to be exact – were cast by the top chefs and restaurant reviewers from every continent who make up the Nespresso World's 50 Best Restaurants Academy. Each Academy-member handed in a personal selection of five restaurants, with the stipulation that at least three of these had to come from outside the Academy-member’s home region. This year, El Bulli on the Costa Brava in Spain, run by Ferran Adrià, was named the best restaurant in the world for an unprecedented third time in a row.The top end of the list is dominated by familiar names, with only one new entry in the top 10 - the Noma restaurant in Copenhagen.France is the best represented country, with 11 entries in the top 50. The United States has eight entries and Spain, 7, followed by Great Britain (6), Italy (5), Germany (3) and Australia (2). The French Laundry (Yountville, California) was named Best Restaurant in the Americas, and Tetsuya’s (Sydney) was named Best Restaurant n Australasia. For the complete results, please log on to www.theworlds50best.com.1 EL BULLI Spain World's Best Restaurant | Best in Europe2 THE FAT DUCK
