On, Off and Behind the Big Screen
Stars, parties, glitz, glamour – but what about the movies? Whatever else the Cannes Film Festival has become, movies are what makes Cannes Cannes. As the place where films are bought, sold and celebrated, Cannes can make or break a film like nowhere else on earth. This year Nespresso invites you to experience the Cannes Film Festival with on-the-spot reporting by Randall Koral. Randall will be looking at the festival through the eyes of Wild Bunch, one of the world’s most widely respected “mini-major” film companies and always an important player at Cannes. This year Wild Bunch is presenting four films in the Cannes festival’s official competition (A Christmas Tale, Two Lovers, Che, My magic), three in the Séance Spéciale selection (Sangue Pazzo, Maradona by Kusturica, Chelsea on the rocks), one film out of competition (Vicky Cristina Barcelona) and another two in the festival’s Un Certain Regard selection (Tokyo !, Tyson). Movies directed by brilliant directors such as Steven Soderbergh, Arnaud Desplechin, Woody Allen, to name a few.And those are just the films already in the can, so to speak. The Wild Bunch bunch have come to Cannes with a bunch of projects in the works and up their sleeves. Among these are a story about football legend Eric Cantona (working title: Looking for Eric) to be directed by Ken Loach. Another is a Woody Allen movie scheduled for release early next year.Want to know more? Want to share the spotlight with the winners and spare a conciliatory hug for the losers?
