Visions of the Next Generation

Nespresso extended an invitation to the top European design schools. Leading institutions included the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, the Ecole Boulle and the Ecole Camondo in Paris, the EID in Toulon, the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart, the MOME – Moholy –Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest, the Domus Academy and the Politecnico in Milan, the Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst in Zurich, the ECAL – Ecole Cantonale d'Art of Lausanne and the Royal College of Art in London. A major innovation this year: three schools from the United States – Columbia University, theCalifornia College of the Arts and the Pratt Institute – and the National University of Singapore did also reply to the contest invitation. The competition was also open to design students who do not attend these selected universities. From the 55,000 visitors of the Nespresso design website, more than 1,500 students registered for the contest. Out of a total of 334 submitted projects, the vast majority, 112 in all, came from France. This was followed by Italy with 36 projects and Switzerland with 32 projects.
