II. A partnership for more sustainable aluminium production

There are many different players involved in the mining, refining, retrieval and recycling of aluminium. As part of AluCycle™ Nespresso launched a new initiative to bring these players together to improve the sustainability of aluminium and therefore of Nespresso capsules.

We may be a small player in the aluminium industry, but together with the IUCN, we have taken a pioneering role in promoting the development of a sustainable aluminium industry. This involves bringing together the key players, including mining companies, aluminium producers and suppliers, packaging providers, industry associations and environmental NGOs, to agree a set of principles and criteria for responsible aluminium production. For instance, this could include exploring more sustainable practices for mining bauxite, the raw material that is used to produce aluminium.
