Michael Porter speaks at the Third Nestlé Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality™ Coffee Forum

  Coffee      Events      Farmers

Every two years, Nespresso holds its Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality™ Coffee Forum. The Forum brings together experts, partners and key stakeholders to learn about, debate and identify key Nespresso initiatives to shape our long-term approach to embedding sustainability within the coffee supply chain.

In November 2009, Nespresso held its Third Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality™ Coffee Forum. The event was inaugurated by Professor Michael Porter, Director of the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness at Harvard Business School. In his keynote speech, Michael Porter explained his concept of Shared Value, an approach that aims to enhance the competitiveness of a company while simultaneously advancing economic and social conditions in the communities in which it operates.

The Third Forum also introduced new research, which had been commissioned by Nespresso and carried out by INCAE, the leading business school in Latin America. The work identified quality and yield as the two critical drivers of long term economic value creation for coffee farmers. Based on this study, Nespresso developed a detailed economic model that identifies the short-term economic barriers preventing farmers and partners from investing in a sustainable future. This learning has already helped to shape the development of the AAA Sustainable Quality™ Program. The fourth Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality™ Coffee Forum is coming soon, on June 2nd 2011.
