Measuring the sustainability journey of AAA farms

Since 2008, Nespresso has been working on a AAA Sustainable Quality™ database to gather, analyse and share information with coffee farmers, in real time, to help them plan for the future. The first prototype has been tested in Colombia and in Brazil and today, already numbers 40’000 farms in seven countries.

The AAA database is an essential asset for Nespresso, not only for managing the quality and traceability of our highest quality coffee but also for measuring the environmental impacts of the program, too. It allows us to tailor support in environmental management to farmers’ individual needs, as well as providing a global overview of our program implementation and the adoption of sustainability best practice. To make the database as efficient and user friendly for our technicians and agronomists as possible, we are currently testing the integration of the tool into the iPhone.
