The coffee beans we buy to produce our Grands Crus are some of the rarest in the world. Only a small percentage - around 2% - of the world’s coffee harvest matches Nespresso’s standards for quality and aroma profile. That is why we are building meaningful and lasting relationships with the farmers who produce this outstanding coffee. As a consequence we believe that everyone in the supply chain will benefit from a joint commitment to producing highest quality coffee in a sustainable way.
The Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality™ Program was launched in 2003 and is the outcome of an extensive multilateral collaboration. As well as drawing from our direct contact with small-scale coffee growers we have benefited enormously from our collaborative partnership with the Rainforest Alliance. This process could not have happened without the ongoing support of Nestlé, our parent company, whose commitment to sustainable development has been demonstrated by its ‘Shared Value’ approach.
Today more than 30% of the beans we source comes from the AAA Program. We are fully committed to increasing this to 50% by 2010. As a company each of us shares a sense of pride and enthusiasm about the positive impact this initiative is already having on farmers and their communities around the world.
In the pages of this website you can find out more about the principles and practices of our AAA Program, what makes it different and what we are achieving. By choosing Nespresso you are supporting a wider Nespresso AAA coffee community, and your involvement will help to make a success of the AAA Program, from the coffee grower to your cup.
